GODOX AD200. New 200w flash without hot shoe

In recent years I have been surprised by the releases made by Godox , not only talking about flashes but also monolights or strobes.

What perhaps strikes me most is not only the quality but also the creativity of the products, many of them today working with dedicated batteries and wireless drive systems.

And the newest addition to the brand’s lighting unit roster is the recently launched Wistro AD200, a new addition that arrives at CES 2017 in Las Vegas.

The GODOX AD200 is a somewhat strange unit, because it is not a flash and it is also not a monolight, but a hybrid of the two.

It offers two interchangeable heads, one with a lamp, traditional for monolights, and the other with a fresnel lamp, traditional for flash units.

But it doesn’t have a hotshoe, so you won’t be able to easily mount it on your standard flash bracket. However, it has two options for fixing via screws, on the side and bottom.

A big improvement, it seems, is the weight when compared to its brothers the AD180 and AD360.

And a great option is the lithium battery operation, which makes it much easier in places without outlets nearby.

It looks a lot like a standard flash when you are using the head with a fresnel lamp, which means that you can use adapters of the most varied types to manipulate the light.

For those who like to be able to change the pattern of the light it seems a good option, after all besides using softboxes, gels and diffusers you can also change the pattern of the lamp, great idea the brand.

The brand hasn’t said anything about prices yet, so the deal is waiting. Nor do we know when the product will arrive here in Brazilian lands.

The AD200 has everything to be a great product, it remains to be seen how it behaves live.

As soon as CES2017’s news comes out, you’ll see it here.
