1. Unlock your creativity

One of the biggest problems for a content creator, a musician, a photographer or for any artist in general is the creative block. Often you spend hours trying to get something out and the idea just doesn’t come, the spark doesn’t turn into fire.

And this usually happens when we have a lot in our heads, everyday things as an example, and there is not much time left to be creative. Something a thing that can pave the way and unlock the creative door there is to start writing, and you don’t have to write a book.

Waking up in the morning and just writing down what you would like to do on that particular day can help your creative being. Other times, just letting your imagination flow with words is a good remedy for creative block.

Write, write about anything that comes to mind, write for as long as you want. You will see that the ideas started to emerge and one after the other and this release can help your photography. When you’re shooting do the same, forget about the rules and concepts and just do it. You may not realize it at first, but writing and photography are closely linked arts, and when you are in tune with each other.

2. Define your style

Just like any profession where we have specializations, a criminal lawyer for example. The photographer must also have his expertise. When you introduce yourself as a photographer to someone and that person asks you; – What kind of photography do you do? What do you answer?

It is a very complicated question for many photographers, as we always tend to think that we can shoot everything with the same application. But in truth we all have our strengths and weaknesses, our affinities and desires. Every great photographer became great at some point recognized that particular style was what he liked, or what he was good at.

And a great way to find your own path is to get to know yourself better, and writing can help your photography and help you. Take all your photos and choose the best ones, not the ones with the most likes on Instagram, but the photos you connect with the most. Separate everything and write about the photo, but not just what is in the photo, write why that photo touches you, what are the strengths as a photo, what are the feelings.

As soon as you do this for the photos you liked the most, read everything, and then write down who you are as an artist. Put in words what separates you and your vision from other photographers, I assure you that after doing this you will know yourself much better as a photographer.

3. When, where and why

When you have a traditional job it is easy to think and describe your career so far. I studied for X years in such place, I worked in such company for Y years and so on.

Now imagine creating a written resume for a photographer, imagining that he will work with it for years and having countless clients. It is certainly a very complicated process because if we follow the traditional format of resumes, the resume task would be kilometric.

Instead, I suggest that you create a biographical text where you highlight the main works you’ve done, what are your differences as a photographer and things like that. Go through all the work related to photography, and forget all those who will not contribute directly to your career. After all work Mc. Donalds may have paid for his first camera, but it hardly made you a better photographer.

And again you will be caught by the writing / photography closely linked, so writing about your as a photographer and about your photography surely it will help your photography.

It doesn’t matter what you’re writing about, whether it’s a play or your next landscape photo, writing will unlock your mind. And in photography it’s the same thing, writing where you want to go with your photos, how you want to take your photos, and why you like it are things that will only benefit you.

Writing will help your photography and it will help you not only as a photographer but also as a creative mind.
